General Discussion / Re: Is this software still being developed/supported?
« on: September 24, 2013, 01:19:39 PM »
Yes, software still being developed/supported.  It has been awhile since the last update.  The next update will be early 2014.  I'm also working on a native MAC version.  A slimmed down version for IOS devices is planned for next year as well.

If anyone needs to re-install and knows the unlock code use the steps below.  If you don't remember the unlock code send me a message here or at

1.) Run the original Install: .

2.) Once you have it installed verify it runs then you can download the
latest update here:

General Discussion / Re: Bug in new update?
« on: June 04, 2010, 05:07:19 PM »
The bug fix for the LOR channel import is done and will be in the next update.  I have a couple more bugs to fix before I release the next update but it will be available soon.  I'm also going to include help documentation on the new features recently added.
Also, have you had any problems creating a mega tree like Brett is having?

Can you save your project file (.hld) the next time it crashes and email it to me:  I have not been able to recreate the error myself.  Also, can you tell me what light size/color you are trying to add?

Software Update News / HLD 4.0 Version Is Available
« on: May 11, 2010, 12:45:19 AM »
The latest update as of 5/11/2010 can be downloaded here:

If you have any problems installing the update try these steps:

1. Uninstall the HLD version you have.  Make a copy of your Documents/Holiday Lights Designer 4 folder first for safe keeping.
2. Install version using this link:  Save the file to your hard disk before running it.
3. Make sure version runs ok, then you can run the update to get it to the latest version.

Thanks for the feedback, I agree.  I'll modify that process.

General Discussion / Re: Memory recognition

The old 4.x files will transfer.  There is a quick conversion process of the older project file and a new updated copy is made in the newer format.  This conversion does not change anything in the project other than updating the image format of the house image.

Would you have time this weekend install the new version and test it for me to see if everythings installs and works for you?

General Discussion / Re: Memory recognition

Hi there,
Well, having a lot of memory and great video card are important, but that can only get you so far with HLD.  My goal this year has been to implement changes aimed at reducing the CPU and memory required by HLD.

One example of an update I made is the option to draw a strand of 100 lights as a single object versus 100 individual objects. So, that one strand of lights takes roughly 100 times less memory than it used to plus you can easily drag the 100 lights together since they are "connected".

I'll keep working on performance improvements and hopefully make the performance problems "go away".  I prefer that approach than having someone spend more money to add memory.

The LOR demo version will connect to HLD but it does not send any light commands.  You have to register the full version of LOR.  The HLD demo is fully functional.

These types of issues will be resolved with an upcoming free update planned for the end of September.

"It depends".  It will change the color of all the icicles in the same channel as the one you right click over. Those kind of changes used to be global but with the LOR logic lights in different channels are not changed.  I'll work on that.

I'm documenting all your suggestions for future updates.  I like the idea of a color assignment chart.  Oh, I have not expanded net light colors for this release.  For now, just the icicle lights have the expanded colors and custom color option.
