General Discussion / Re: Memory recognition

Would you have time this weekend install the new version and test it for me to see if everythings installs and works for you?

If you need someone else to assist in this, you know you can count on me as well.

General Discussion / Things to look forward to in 2009

I just wanted to drop a note to see if you were going to put out a plug of items to look forward to for this year in the way of upgrades and enhancements to the application.

I know you received a lot of ideas for enhancements - do you have a hot list of what is to come?

General Discussion / Re: upgrading to full version without losing anything

I feel your pain on this as I had this problem when I upgraded to the full version.  I beleive Michael has released this fix already.  It is never a bad idea to just copy the entire directory and have a back up of it in case something does happen.

You should be able to select layering.  This will give you the option to lay another string of lights on top of an existing string.

Tips and Tricks / Better Response Time
« on: October 09, 2008, 09:22:13 AM »
I have found that when I zoom out of both my channel and time settings within LOR, the animation sequence runs smoother and faster within Holiday Light Designer.  It still is not able to keep up with the fast .05 second switches, but it does not hang or lag as much.

Give it a try and see if it works for you.

Tips and Tricks / Mega Tree Frame
« on: September 14, 2008, 10:09:55 AM »
Do you see the mega tree frame light up when you are viewing your animation?

Open the mega tree window and under appearance place a check in Tree Frames.  You should see Hide in parentheses (Hide).  This will keep the tree frame from showing during playback.

I am in the process of testing out a couple of video capturing possibilities as well.

I came across a couple of options.

Here are a couple of links you may want to check out …

Here is one from Microsoft

Please submit any Tips or Tricks that you have discovered to assist others in making HLD a success.

HLD is very robust and many of us think differently when looking at the tools that are provided.  If you have found a work around for something, please share.

General Discussion / Re: Mini Trees
« on: August 19, 2008, 09:40:58 AM »
I just created small trees in MSPaint and placed lights on them.  I then imported the item.  I have also attached a picture of what I have at this time.  I am currently struggling with my mega tree layout and design.  Once completed I will bring it into the project as well.

I have also completed the wreaths after I captured this picture.  The wreaths are 3 colors, red - green and white.  I created them with the mega tree and just turned the tree on its side and set the height low and bottom to the size of the wreath.  I then saved the tree layout design.  This allowed me to create a tree with each color and overlay it on top of the other for each wreath.

I don't have PhotoShop.  Can you export it to something else and send it over.  I would like to see how it looks as well.  Post a picture of your HLD image ...

I am going to have 1 arch this year.  In HLD I just drew out a string of lights on my planned arch 7 times to represent the 7 channels.  I have attached an image that I created in HLD so that you can see the arch.  It was very simple to do and yes it looks good on the animation.

General Discussion / Re: What a wonderful program....

It was fun working on this.  I took the outline of the complete star and separated it in paint.  This gave me 3 separate images.  When you lay them on top of each other, you have the star.

I took each image and put lights on them.  Once the lights were on each, I used the decoration wizard to capture it so that I can use it again.

The unfortunate thing was that I did this all when I had the trial version.  When I purchased the full version and installed it, it over wrote the files that I had created.

Of course Murphy's law stepped in.  I have a back up running for all my files.  It stopped working properly and did not back up the night that I did the work on the star.  And I upgraded to the full version the following day.   >:(

Michael was quick to put that fix in.  It shouldn't take me too long to do the re-work on the star.

I am real close to finishing my layout design as well.  I have attached what I have at this time.

Missing are the lights on the 2 wreaths and the mega tree.  I may keep the mega tree in a separate project, but undecided at this time.

On the left side, I have added boxes for my 4 windows as well as the north poles for that side of the house.

I hope to have a short demo video capture after this weekend showing a complete fade across the house.  When I have that completed I will make sure to upload that.

That is OK - now if I could just get the Wizard to work.  I already have it on my project, but I would like to share it with some other people.

 ;D ;D ;D

Thats all I can do is laugh.

I have a backup setup and thought it has been running.  Well guess what - it hasn't been running properly.  The date that I need to restore or course is the day after it stopped working.   >:(  >:(

Now I am having problems using the Decoration Wizard to capture the 3 objects of the star  :(

I have made other provisions with my backup software to be notified of when it stops working, but that won't get my work back.  Oh well - shame on me as I should have backed up the directory manually prior to installing the full version.
